Used electric generator is as good as new, if maintained properly and having run for a 100 hours or so. Diesel power generators are usually more reliable (but more expensive) than the petrol-driven ones. Still, the convenience of having an interrupted power supply during the periods of inclement weather, is a big benefit for many homes and businesses. In any event, costs are insignificant when compared to the potential for losses.
